The GeoTool Geotul Hammer is also known as the ‘Tweedie tool’. After its creator, Ron Tweedie. Who is a geologist from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. He often times would encounter field sites which requires the removal of soils, sediments and vegetation. This was proving difficult with just a typical geologists rock pick. This resulted in the creation of the GeoTool. The light weight construction allows for a multitude of uses. The head has a flat striking face. giving you the ability to easily break off or crush rock in the field for samples. However, the wide end of the tool also allows you to cut roots, scrape away lichens and roll up moss like a carpet. In addition to acting as a crude shovel and scraper. Additionally, allowing you to scrape away soil and mud.

Its construction is three pounds of manganese steel. Such as that used in railway tracks. It will work harden, meaning the steel will actually get tougher with use. This head is mounted on a 30 inch (762 mm) long genuine American hickory shaft. This wood is common in many higher end strike tools, due to its excellent shock absorbing properties. Therefore providing better comfort for the user with each strike. The handle also has an ergonomic shape and texture at the end. This provide it with excellent grip for you while you work.

Overall, this is an excellent tool for geologists, be it mineral collectors or professionals undertaking mineral exploration surveys. It provides you with a light weight tool that won’t encumber you whilst on long treks surveying. Additionally, it hits hard when needed and removes overburden with ease.
