The SGEO Core Orientation Device is a lightweight, durable tool for accurate drill core orientation in geological and geotechnical fieldwork. Constructed from industrial-grade aluminium and secured with stainless steel bolts, it’s both non-magnetic and rust-resistant, ensuring reliable performance in all environments. Designed with user efficiency in mind, the device allows 0–90° dip adjustments without additional supports. A 2 cm viewing gap provides a clear line of sight to the orientation line and core sample. Its reinforced hinge locks and stabilizing base wings deliver excellent control and stability in the field.
Core orientation is the measurement of drill core samples, (either for geological or engineering purposes). As they were in their original position, known as ‘in situ’. They allow users, such as geotechnical engineers or mineral exploration geologists to better interpret geological structures. Including: bedding planes, lines within the core. Which help further with: structural planning, mineral exploration surveys, mine design and drill hole targeting.
This new orientation device (known unofficially as ‘Rocket Launchers’ among exploration geologists) by SGEO. Is designed after identifying a number of improvements which can be made in comparison to models already on the market. Using industrial grade aluminium for its construction. This model is both light weight and robust, just what is required with any product for field use.
The device is held together by stainless steel bolts, therefore eliminating the potential of rust over time when in the elements. Therefore, the device is also non-magnetic, not interfering with readings from potential iron bearing mineral or your compass needle.
Users can lock the hinges on the orientation device, keeping the core holding section securely in place. These allow users to adjust the ‘dip’ between 0 – 90 degrees without any additional support as is often the case in other models. A 2 cm gap is present between the support beams, allowing you full view of the orientation line as well as a clear view of the core from behind. Small side wings are present on the devices base, which provide further stability when in use.
The high quality design and premium materials used in the SGEO Core Orientation device allow it to hold up to 150 kg of load. Therefore, allowing you to use core lengths of up to 60 cm if necessary. Overall, this premium piece of kit comes in at an astonishing 2.7 kg in total weight, and measures 50 cm in length. While the core holder section measures 40 cm. Providing users with an accurate, durable field measuring device.
Engineered for geologists, mining engineers, and exploration teams. The SGEO Core Orientation Device delivers accuracy, reliability, and ease of use in the field.
