The Suunto Tandem is a hand-held precision instrument used all over by technicians, surveyors, engineers, miners, architects and many others to measure bearings quickly, reliably and easily for surveying, mapping and drilling projects or technical installations. It offers the user the ability to obtain both directional readings and height, dip or slop readings within one instrument by sighting lenses. The needle on the compass section is also globally balanced allowing for use anywhere in the world.

Suunto Tandem compass clinometer is a two-in-one specialised sighting instrument. It provides you with the ability to obtain accurate direction, height, slope, and angle readings. It displays both an azimuth compass face, running from 0 to 360°. Furthermore, when viewed from the optic on the side, it features the same, in intervals of 0.5°. Thus giving you a 1/3° of accuracy. It exhibits smooth movement thanks to the sapphire jewel bearings and the capsule is liquid filled. Therefore the compass will settle quickly, so you can proceed to take readings sooner. In addition to these features, the compass needle is global, therefore you can use it in all magnetic zones.

Further to the compass, is an incorporated inclinometer. This provides you with a slope of ±90° on the face, as well as ±90° slope and % scales which are in 0.5° graduations, giving 1/4° accuracy. You can view these by the separate optic on the edge of the instrument. Just like the compass, the clinometer’s movement is smooth thanks to sapphire jewel bearings. This capsule is also liquid filled, allowing for quick dampening and readings.

All of these mechanisms are held within a robust alloy casing, making the instrument suitable for field use. In addition, it also comes with a tough, nylon field case for extra protection when not in use. A lanyard comes with the instrument in order to tie to your wrist, preventing accidental drops. Often used by geologists, surveyors, architects, or engineers within the mining, building, surveying, or engineering sectors.

The Suunto Tandem compass clinometer is, therefore, an excellent, all-around instrument. Built for a number of uses where accuracy and efficiency are key and a tough, rugged instrument is paramount.
